TRICIA DEGRAFF – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Tricia completed her doctoral degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Tricia has 18 years of experience in urban schools as a classroom teacher, teacher educator and school leader. As a teacher educator, Tricia taught a practice-based integrated literacy, social studies and arts methods course. Through this work, Tricia partnered with school-based staff to design learning experiences for pre-service teachers that connect practice to theory. In her current role, Tricia is interested in determining how to best facilitate professional development for teachers that is meaningful, inquiry-based, authentic and teacher-centered, leading to transformative learning for children and teachers. In her free time, Tricia enjoys spending time with her family, including her two growing children and traveling.

Karren Colbert – PRINCIPAL
Karren Colbert is the Principal at AFIA. Prior to working at AFIA, Ms. Colbert worked in a variety of capacities serving as a classroom teacher, reading teacher and instructional coach. Most recently she worked as a consultant, specializing in working with turnaround schools to improve student achievement through teacher development and data-driven instruction. Additionally she is an adjunct instructor for the University of Missouri, teaching a graduate level course designed to help first-year teachers develop a positive classroom climate.
